銚子のカモメ

セグロカモメ（Herring Gull）
Choshi, the easternmost city in Chiba prefecture, is the best place to see gulls. However the day I visited Choshi was unusually warm and calm for February. I don't know if it was because of that, or this year is just happened to be an unlucky year, the number of gulls was not as large as we had expected; still so many.
Most of them are Black-tailed Gulls, Herring Gulls and Black-headed Gulls but if you look carefully, you will find some other species, such as Common Gull, Black-legged Kittiwake, Glaucous Gull...and if you watch really carefully, you will notice the existence of Thayer's Gull.


One of the biggest points to distinguish gulls is the color of the under side of primary feather, I learned. At first, I couldn't even understand why people can see the color of such a difficult place. Distinguishing gulls is a crazy hobby indeed!

カーリングストーン

デッキブラシで擦ったら動くかな。

野生動物研究会「鳥班」の卒業旅行と称して銚子に行ってきた。なんと言っても、楽しかった。
鳥類を扱う研究室がない大学なのに、4年間、鳥関係の活動ばかりしてきた気がする。そして、自称鳥班？の4人全員が、別々の研究室に入りつつも卒論で野鳥を扱っていた……ちょっとすごいと思う。

バレンタインの麦チョコ

前からやってみたかったこと、カラスウリに麦チョコを入れてみた。

冷たい朝

メジロ(Japanese White-eye)
The bird was dead in front of my place. I haven't found out the cause of death yet but I sketched and weighed it.
It only weighed 10 grams...no wonder White-eyes can perch on the fruit of Chocolate vine.

足跡

On the oral presentation day of my graduation thesis, Tokyo area was totally covered with snow for the first time this winter. I remember listening to my seniors' presentation two years ago, on a snowy day.

新入り鷽

千葉天神の鷽。Uso (Bullfinch) charm
受験生にはうそ替えの鷽を一羽、というのが、いつの間にかうちの恒例になった。今年は、一番下のいとこのため、という名目のもと、母が千葉まで行ってくれた。

卒論も無事に終わりますように～

TWINPAN

それは、食性研で最近、流行っているフライパン。同時に二つの目玉焼きが作れます。

大学生な日々

昨日は卒論パワポのゼミ内の発表会、第一弾だった。8時間のゼミ。途中の休憩は50分だけ！
みんな寝ていないなかで、よくがんばった、よね？　
そして５日後が第二弾。しばらくとんでもない日が続きそうだ。
でも、先輩が夕飯を作ってくれたり、OBが差し入れをくれたり、きっと後から考えれば、いい思い出の日々になるに違いない。



お正月に見たカワラヒワ（Carduelis sinica　kawarahiwba）
亜種オオカワラヒワだった・・・と思う。

ちっとも外に出ていないけれど、案外に鳥は見ている。研究室が4階なので、窓の向こうはちょうどケヤキの梢。エナガやコゲラ、カワラヒワが目の高さで見える。キャンパス内にはシロハラもツグミもイカルもいて・・・・・・この大学にしてよかったと思う。

逃避エネルギー

心に余裕がないと、つい一日中、パソコンに向き合ってしまう。そして魔の22時になると突然、逃避エネルギーが湧いてくる。
そんなとき、つい作ってしまう消しゴムはんこ。

勉強しろと怒られたことはなかったけれど、暇そうにしていたり、無駄なことに時間を使っていると、「おけいこしなさい！」と必ず言われた。ピアノのお稽古だ。それが何よりも嫌いだったわたしは、絵を描いたり、本を読んだり、建設的なことをしているふりをして逃れていた。
だからいまだに、ぼうっとしているのは罪悪感にかられるので、何か作ってしまう。
結局、ちっとも休まず、時間オーバーして作り続けて……
本題の卒論が進まない。

離陸

Being not even a sunday driver, I drove to Motonomura in Chiba prefecture to see the swans during the new year's holidays.
Although we arrived at the pond after the feeding time, there were hundreds of them swimming and resting.

One swan family suddenly began to call each other nodding their heads. And then they took off all at once, making a huge curve a few hundred meters away, and headed east.
Several minutes later, another family flew away following the same route.
"Just like the air planes from Narita Airport" said my grandmother.



まだ三が日だというのに、寒い中、地元の方が車の誘導などをしてくれていた。観光とはいっても、ほとんど地域にお金が落ちないのが気に掛かる。というわたしも、ひとしきり楽しませてもらって、たった250円の饅頭を買っただけ。ごめんなさい。
千葉のハクチョウの飛来地としては、有名になっているようだけれど、"白鳥米"の本埜米も、同時にもうちょっとブランド化しないともったいない気がする。
