タカの渡り

Smith Point Hawk Watch Tower
A book to enjoy hawk watch was finally published last week, witch has some of my illustrations in it.
Last year, I visited several hawk watch points in Japan for that book and I loved the hawk watch style birdwatching; sitting at the same place and watching the sky. So in Texas. I ask my host mother's birder friend to take me to Smith Point.

    Happy birthday!
It was sorry to not greet you in Annual meeting OSJ.
You watch birds in all over the world. I don’t know foreign birds at all.
This weekend, I will go to watch seabirds on a chartered fishing boat!
So I want a digital single lens reflex camera to take a photograph of seabirds, but it is very expensive for me. I am thinking now about it…
    (Is this correct???)

  5. Dear Sanderling_2005,
Thank you for your comment in English!!
It sounds really fun to go birding on a fishing boat! I'm looking forward to reading your article and seeing your photos about the trip on your blog.

  6. Hello Ting,
The eye of Hurricane Ike, the strongest part of a hurricane, passed over Smith Point. Most of the small community on the point was leveled. It is likely the mottes (oak tree woods) we birded were poisoned from the salt water storm surge and will likely die. There was a pile of debris 6-8 feet high (2.5 meters) surrounding the tower but it was still standing!

  7. Dear DC,
Thank you so much for your comment. I'm really surprised and really really happy!!
The damage on the woods sounds serious. If the tower is buried that much, it's no longer a tower...?

  8. The main structure of the tower is still standing. The big challenge will be hauling away all the debris. When that's complete they'll check that the tower is structurally sound and, hopefully, Smith Point hawkwatch will returned to "normal."

  9. Dear DC,
I hope the sturdy structure of the tower is strong enough and that I can visit there next time!
It must be very frustrating for those howk watch researcher not to be able to use the tower this season.
