百合の季節

Recent weekend sketches. Summer is not a good season for sketching in Japan. It's too hot to be in the sun and if you go into the shades, you will be bothered by mosquitos. I now understand why plein air painting or even outdoor sketching is not popular at all here. 



At seaside, I can at least get some nice breeze!

天神島にて、なぜかアイゴばかり十数匹が浜に打ち上がったり、海に浮いたりしていた。

海の日、千葉市美術館の「木版画の神様 平塚運一展」を見に行きたいね、という話から千葉へ。どうせ千葉まで行くならという話だったか、海の日だったからか、ずいぶん足を伸ばして九十九里まで出かけてきた。
平塚運一展は、若い頃から晩年までのかなりの点数の作品があって、若い頃にいろいろな版画技法を試行錯誤している様子や、晩年の力強い白黒作品など、時代を追って楽しめた。白黒で彫られたお寺などの建物、アメリカでの作品がとてもよかった。
白黒の、ちょっとボールドな版画も挑戦してみたいな。
