Reunion with Cambridge friends

ミラクル・タイ旅行から帰ってきた。わたしがカブカを連れてタイに行くと言ったら、ケンブリッジで一緒に勉強し、一緒に暮らしていた2人が、それならタイまで会いに行くっと集まってくれて実現した旅だった。3人が揃うのはたぶん10年以上ぶり。

We came back from the miracle Thailand trip! The idea of this trip was to let my daughter see my father and my Thai friends. And to meet up with my Cambridge days' best friends, Ruchi and Rosemary, somewhere in the "middle." It was very unfair for Rosemary to fly from Rochester, NY but we did get together after so many years!!

カブカにとっては初のNEX（もうあんまり喜ばなかったけど）、初の飛行機、初の外国。空港で絵本『のびる　じどうしゃ』に出てくるハイリフトローダーを見つけた。わたしはこれまで飛行機には何度も乗っているけれど、こんなに良く眺めたのは初めてだった。

「ほーら見てごらん！　雲の完全に上だー。雲の上は晴れだねえ」

インドのバンガロールから飛んできたルーチーたち夫婦と、ニューヨーク州ロチェスターから地球を半周してきたローズマリーとバンコクで落ち合い、はやり同じコースで学んでいたバンコクに住むホーンの案内で、バーンルアン運河沿いのアーティスツハウスに行き、みんなでのんびりスケッチした。

It has been years since I last been in Thailand.  With very weak Japanese yen and high prices, everything felt very expensive!   

Thanks to Hong, Rosemary and Ruchi, Archit and my family spent a nice afternoon at Artist's House at Khlong Bang Luang. We sketched the canal scenery together and talked about our days in Cambridge, works, life, culture and art. And, of course, our mind was always with our great tutor Prof. Martin Salisbury.

カブカもいっぱしに、誰よりもたくさんスケッチしていた。

Living as a Japanese person in Japan, which is a country that consists of mostly people of the same race, I feel that people assume that we would think and behave the same so somehow people tend to pick up the tiny differences and point out the black sheep. But being with foreign friends, who have totally different backgrounds, we all know that we are very different and we tend to look at what we have in common. And we have so much in common! That make me feel so comfortable.
